How do you steal $300K from Hershey? It certainly would take a lot of bars and kisses. Nevertheless, it happened and here is how!

A 45-year-old woman from Lebanon, Pa. was arrested in connection with the theft of more than $300,000 from her employer, Hershey Entertainment & Resorts Co.

She is being charged with three separate felonies according to ldnews.com.

Her arrest came after a nearly four-month investigation revealed Rebecca Bomgardner had been embezzling funds and transferring the money to her private accounts.

As an accounts receivable coordinator, Bomgardner had experience with the company's payment processes.

Like many bookkeeper thieves, Bomgardner devised a way to use an accounting software program to access company funds through the general ledger account, creating fictitious customer accounts and then applying credits to the accounts for services that were never rendered. As part of the scheme, she linked her personal credit cards to the fictitious accounts so that when the credit was applied, the money would be directed to her personal accounts.

Unlike most embezzlers, she admitted her crime. She had taken a total amount taken from the company was $333,323.83.

A person with a good job making a decent living turning to crime. Many would give a lot to have had that job. Why then did Bomgardner decide to become a thief?

Hopefully she will mandated a Pennsylvania theft class as well as counseling in addition to paying restitution to Hershey.
