How much pizza would you have to steal in order to be charged with grand theft pizza? I am sure it would be a lot. This blog relates to a man who stole from his employer, a pizzeria and is going to pay a hefty price.

The thief is one Brooks Jackson of Bradenton, Florida. The victim – a Papa John’s franchise. Hoe much - $7,695 while working there from April to August. As reported in www.heraldtribune.com.

The Heist

Jackson was a shift manager for a store was responsible for paying delivery drivers at the end of their shift based on the number of deliveries they made.

Each driver is paid out of a “store cash” fund, the affidavit said, and a record is kept in a computer detailing who is paid and how much. Jackson’s employee number was recorded as making the payments, but at least 42 of them were for “mileage,” which indicated that he paid himself for delivering pizzas.

On a positive note Jackson appears to be contrite. He admitted to the thefts, saying he was homeless and needed the money. That in itself would be no excuse, then, however he had to add that someone else might have used his employee number when he walked away from the computer, but offered no suspects.

I hope he takes a Florida theft class to help understand the nature of his behavior and to prevent recidivism to his theft behavior.
