There is not a business in society that does not suffer from theft. As a former employee in the catering industry and a counselor for both in-class and online theft classes I know how prevalent theft is in the industry.

One of the ways theft occurs is dishonest workers in this industry often steal materials that are brought to prepare food. These materials often stolen by restaurant workers include bottles and cartoons of drinks, ingredient supply, and utensils.

Taking accurate inventory is one step toward combating this type of theft. If one theft goes unnoticed the dishonest workers will continue to steal and get more brazen each time.

One owner of a large catering firm has a strong policy against theft. If something is stolen she holds the entire crew accountable, making them collectively pay for each item stolen.

She claims that her 21 employees have understood this style of decision making and are keeping keen watch on one another because no one wants his/her salary to be affected by the action of another person.

Curbing employee theft in catering and any other industry is a benefit for society as a whole. Companies will continue to make profits and bring down prices for consumers. Theft classes for each of their employees such be mandatory!
