Why do people steal? Many think that shoplifting is the result of necessity. I can assure you people steal for a variety of reason and need is near the bottom of the list.
When caught shoplifting people have a variety of responses. Many, like Jill Harvey, the New York State Director of Rural Development for the USDA, are evasive.
As reported in cnycentral.com, Harvey is charged with misdemeanor petit larceny. It all began at Industry Hair Salon where surveillance cameras caught Harvey taking several bottles of hair products as well as a bracelet and placing them in a bag. The store manager confronted her and contacted local authorities.
When first confronted, Harvey denied she was stealing, but tried to take back the products she had allegedly taken. This simple shoplifting incident reaches to the highest levels with even the White House contacting the store and asking for a copy of the surveillance video. Harvey was appointed to the post by President Obama in 2009.
Harvey may lose her plush job as a result of her idiotic shoplifting behavior!
Harvey is also considered an influential member of the Democratic Party. Let’s hope she can learn from this experience. Perhaps a good theft class and some counseling will keep her on the right side of the law, even if she is on the left side of the political aisle.
