There are few things more nerve-racking than asking a woman to marry you for the first time. I clearly remember how excited and nervous I was when I went to purchase the ring. I carried it from city to city for months as I awaited the courage to ask my girlfriend to marry me.

When the time finally came and I was able to pull out the ring and pop the question it was an experience I will never forget. I cannot imagine what would have happened if someone had stolen the ring before I asked the question.

True Story

The good news is the bad guys got busted. Two people have been arrested after a burglary which ruined a man's surprise plan to propose to his girlfriend when thieves stole the engagement ring.

Jason Lyon ended up asking Nicola Waites to marry him as they sat in the back of a police van while scenes-of-crime officers dusted their home for fingerprints. Real romantic, huh?

Mr Lyon, 20, bought the $450 diamond ring and planned to propose on New Year's Eve, but his romantic idea was ruined by burglars who broke in on Boxing Day.

Arrested were a 30-year-old woman on suspicion of handling stolen goods and a 33-year-old man on suspicion of burglary.

Mr Lyon said the proposal to his 21-year-old fiancée was successful, despite the unusual circumstances.

On a sad note, the engagement ring has not yet been recovered. Shameful behavior. There are honest jobs out there. They may not be what you really want to do long-term, but there is no reason to steal. I would hope both thieves are mandated to a stop theft class.
