How do you punish someone who steals over a kilo of gold? Do they get jail time? How long of a stop theft prevention class do they take? How do the Chinese dish out the punishment? Curious? Read on my friend.
Police in the Chinese province of Hyderabad finally caught up to the thieves of gold jewelry weighing 7.76 kilos. The heisted gold was worth an estimated $250,000 US dollars. As reported in www.thehindu.com.
The thieves were Champalal Rajpurohith and Nagender Singh.
The 26-year-old Champalal from Rajasthan had been working with Mohanlal Jewelry in Chennai for the past three years. He was a tireless worker and a dedicated employee who earned the trust and respect of his employers.
Trusting him, the shop owners began sending him for delivery of gold ornaments to retailers as well as to collect money owed to the shop. Little did his employers know that Champalal had long harbored thoughts of ripping off his company and stealing both the money and jewels in order to start his own jewelry business.
He sought the help of his childhood friend Singh.
Part of Champalal’s job was to collect unsold gold jewelry, and payments from retailers from different cities.
Instead of turning over the gold and cash to his employer he cooked up a story of thieves cutting his suitcase and taking away the jewelry and cash. He even lodged a complaint with the local police.
While his employers didn’t suspect his complicity, he managed to convince the Chennai police that it was a genuine case of theft.
Their thievery was finally discovered when Champalal and Singh tried to dispose of the jewelry. A simple stop theft class certainly is not enough for these two.
