It seems like trouble just follows some people around. Some seem to be trouble makers who seem to get away with almost everything. Others seem to get busted for everything they do. I am not sure which category, perhaps both, that suits Daniel Ray Proctor.
If that name sounds familiar it is because he has been in the news on more than one occasion. He is best-known perhaps as a suspect in the year-long disappearance of his girlfriend in Florida. So far he has not been charged in that case. As reported in blog.al.com.
One charge he was not able to avoid are two theft charges. For these he was sentenced to life in prison!
It is never a good idea to serve as your own attorney, especially in a case where your life hangs in the balance. Nevertheless, the uber-cocky Proctor did and will pay the penalty for his actions. He was convicted of two felonies - for stealing a vehicle and a gun from a lifelong friend. The life verdicts will be served consecutively.
Why was the penalty so severe? The prosecutor asked for and received the maximum penalty -- life in prison -- because Proctor had three prior felony convictions.
Proctor mounted little in way of a defense. After informing the court Monday he would take the stand in his own defense, Proctor changed his mind. He rested his defense six minutes after it started.
It is evident that Proctor has many major issues. At the very least he is a thief, who if exposed to a Florida theft class at an early age, might never have been in this situation!
