When you travel a lot for work you lose stuff. Sometimes you simply misplace something while other times, it is stolen from you. As the educational director for an online stop theft class you can imagine the long hours I put in on the road. I lose stuff all the time. I assure you that some if it is stolen.
I can only imagine what it must be like for a rock band. Not only do they travel often, but thieves want to steal absolutely anything of theirs – even a tooth brush. Do you think it is because they are thieves? More likely they are memorabilia hounds. As reported in www.desmoinesregister.com.
Slipknot lead singer Corey Taylor reported the theft of $36,600 worth of musical equipment in Des Moines, Iowa.
Two bass guitars once owned by deceased Slipknot bassist Paul Gray, who died of an overdose in 2010, were included in the list of stolen items.
A friend is a friend is a friend!
This was not just any thief – it was an inside job! Taylor told police that a friend stole musical equipment when Taylor and his wife were in Europe on a month-long tour. Taylor joined the Des Moines-based metal band in 1997.
A friend told Taylor’s wife that she believed the suspect had been stealing musical equipment from the couple’s West Des Moines home and storage units. Another friend became suspicious when he heard the suspect asking to buy equipment back from a local guitar store.
A third friend was able to identify some of Taylor’s equipment at the guitar store. The store’s manager is storing some of the stolen items and working to track down other equipment that was already sold.
The Taylors have recovered some of their stolen property. Get this – not one friend has even been arrested. Slipknot should become a sponsor of online stop theft classes.
