From stolen metals like train tracks to copper piping, and to corporate embezzlement to shoplifting, theft abounds in today’s society. Gone are the days of the Artful Dodger who stole only to eat.

An investigation by the Summit County (Ohio) Sheriff’s Office has revealed the theft of $200,000 worth of items from local Home Depot, Lowes, Wal-Mart and Dick's Sporting Goods stores.

Sheriff's Inspector Bill Holland says 50 people are accused of being involved in the theft ring which took place over the course of several years.

Deputies have arrested 37-year-old Dawn Haynes and 42-year-old Khalil Abdur. They're still looking for 50-year-old Anthony Jones of Solon, and Darrell Makupson, Khalid Aycocks, Kamal Abdullah and Lindy Okuly. They’re all facing theft and corrupt activity charges.

Holland says the group would steal items like clothing and tools, return it for a store credit, and then either use the store credit or sell it.

Holland says some of the money and materials were used to refurbish three homes. These homes were seized during the investigation.

Once again, we all pay for these pimples on the rump of society who would rather not earn their living. While I certainly do not agree with Islamic Law which would cost these people limbs, something has to be done to stop the incessant theft. A good online theft class is the place to start.
