A day does not go by where I do not hear some story about a stolen cellphone. I’m glad mine is a piece of junk nobody wants. It’s one less thing I have to worry about.
As the educational director for an online stop theft class I often encounter students taking the class for stealing electronics. Lately there have been a number who stole iPhones. As reported in www.chicagonow.com.
A recent report showed that thefts of cellphones rose 16 percent in the first nine months of this year.
Where do you think are the most dangerous places for your cellphone? Ironically, the city with the highest rate of cell phone thefts is the “City of Brotherly Love” – Philadelphia!
Other unfriendly places for cellphones are Seattle at #2, Oakland (Calif.) #3, Long Beach (Calif.) #4 and Newark, NJ #5. Worried you won’t find your city in the top 10? Here is the rest. Detroit is #6, followed by Cleveland #7, Baltimore #8, New York #9 and Boston #10. It is interesting to note that nine of these cities have baseball teams who play in the American League. Philly is the only city in the top 10 with a National League ball club.
In Chicago, which is not even in the top 10, more than 300 cell phones go missing every day.
Where do you think the most likely place to lose your cell phone is? The answer is below.
- Fast food restaurants.
- Drug stores.
- Grocery stores.
- Coffee shops.
- The office.
I hope this trend slows down. I was just thinking of upgrading to a smart phone!
