As a counselor for both in-class and online stop theft classes I have gotten to know thousands of people who shoplift and steal. Some of these people are bright and bored. Some are not the sharpest tool in the shed. Keep in mind that yours truly had a serious issue with petty theft as a youngster.
Regardless of IQ, shoplifting is not smart and usually the thieves do really dumb things. As reported in www2.wspa.com.
Take Ben Greene from North Carolina. What was this 22-year-old thinking when he was arrested for trying to shoplift a "blow up" doll from a novelty store? I am sure he is embarrassed by his actions.
Greene was in Spencer's Gifts and was attempting to steal a "Mylie blow up" doll from the shelf. She said that she saw Greene take a doll out of the box and concealed it in his coat. Try and explain that to a future employer.
In a similar yet unrelated shoplifting story that left those in the courtroom in stitches with laughter, 29-year-old Kevin Goss was arrested Friday on charges of shoplifting and disorderly conduct while intoxicated. People do dumb things when they are drunk.
Goss had stolen four bottles of wine and hidden them in his pants. Police also found more than $170 in other items in his pants. The proverbial “what have you got hidden in your pants” was not lost on this inebriated shoplifter.
A female clerk testified that Goss had been bothering customers then showed her a sex toy and asked her whether she was aroused. The judge admonished the embarrassed 29-year-old telling him he should have kept his sex toy in his pants.
Do you think a sex class would help these two? How about a theft class?
