When you think of a zoo what comes to mind? It is hard to fathom a zoo being the victim of theft.

This is true even if you watched the classic Hollywood comedy “Scavenger Hunt” where characters needed a living ostrich as part of the hunt.

So let’s just say a zoo was the victim of theft, what do you think would have been stolen? A pigmy hippo perhaps? Certainly, nothing as big as a rhinoceros or giraffe, right? I am sure you know where I am going.

Because the Buffalo Zoo was burglarized. You cannot fathom what was taken.

The official word, from the officials at the zoo reported that several hundred dollars in cash and other items have gone missing. It is the other items that are of interest.

Since January, 2013 $1,140 was taken from offices at the zoo. In addition to $31 from her office and $100 in petty cash, $690 was taken from the president’s office and $319 was stolen from the accounting office.

Here is the kicker - also missing from storage at the zoo is a Nintendo WII game, several bottles of liquor worth about $300 and a rifle and shotgun.

Why would a zoo have bottles of liquor and guns?
