Imagine surviving the hell of Fallujah and Baghdad only to be shot when you get back home.  This would be especially sad if the soldier shot was completely innocent. That is not the case here.

In the case, the soldier needs both a theft class and an alcohol class. Like many thieves, this guy was not stealing out of necessity, but stupidity.

Christopher Driggers  had the money to buy the beer but ran out of with a case of Bud Light just for the fun of it. This was reported by news10.net.

The 21-year-old soldier was shot in the shoulder by a store owner as he stole a case of beer.  Oh, and by the way - he is classified as AWOL by the U.S. Army.

Driggers grabbed the $15 12-pack of Bud Light and made it halfway back to the car before the owner of the store shot him in the back.  Nice decision, right?

Store owner Gurminder Parmar, 48, was arrested and booked on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon.  The punishment sure does not seem to fit the crime.  Do you think there might be more to this story?

California law allows a business owner to keep a weapon on the premises, but only to defend the business owner's life or the life of another.

Store surveillance video shows Parmar picked up the 9mm Smith & Wesson semi-automatic handgun even before Driggers ran for the door.  The video shows Parmar chambering a round, taking careful aim and firing the single shot.

Driggers pointed out the irony of serving a year in Afghanistan without a scratch, only to be shot in Lodi for a childish stunt.

Sad story that never should have happened.  Perhaps a theft class and alcohol class will help Driggers understand how wrong he was and keep him from relapsing into his poor behavior choices.
