I can only imagine how intense the pressure must be for a professional athlete. I can honestly say that as a kid growing up, I had hoped to feel the pressure of being a pro athlete. Drugs, alcohol and shoplifting certainly derailed my path to the big leagues!

They almost did the same to a 13-year-old tennis prodigy from Florida. Do you remember Jennifer Capriati? She was the bring up-and-comer on the Women’s Tennis Association Tour back in 1993. Then it appeared the wheels appeared to come off.

After a difficult loss at the US Open the teenager attempted to rid herself of childhood angst by stealing a $15 ring. Of course she claimed she had forgotten she had put it on. As the father of a teenager I know how forgetful they can be. So perhaps she was telling the truth.

Perhaps it was something other than being a forgetful teenager. She was also busted for marijuana possession. It is known that marijuana negatively impacts short-term memory.

Did Capriati need a theft class? Perhaps she needed an online drug class. She appears to have overcome her problematic behavior and is currently leading a healthy, sober life.
