It seems like theft and shoplifting are rampant nowadays. The fact is that theft has been rampant for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. I do not know one retailer who has been in business for more than five years that has not complained about being robbed or shoplifted from. Following is a tale of a store that has gone more than a century and a half without ever having been burgled – until now.

The chairman of Motch Jewelers said that a break-in and theft that occurred back in December, 2013 was the first time the 157-year store has ever been burglarized. The store is not taking the theft laying down. Despite extreme safeguards to prevent theft, Motch is taking steps to make sure there are no more break-ins. As reported in news.cincinnati.com.

It appeared that the burglars broke in through a vacant adjacent building to get inside his business.

This is a true family business and has been passed down from generation to generation. The fact they have never been stolen from before was a badge of honor. The business has been in the family since his great, great grandfather M.C. Motch founded the store at its current location in 1857.

It is extremely difficult to prevent all theft. I hope that whoever took the valuables is caught and mandated to a courses on theft prevention.
