One fact about most shoplifting is that it is not well-planned. Habitual shoplifters steal on impulse. As a counselor for both in-class and online stop theft classes I have heard all kinds of crazy stories about shoplifters.

Nevertheless, this story out of wacky New Zealand takes the cake. A woman from Hastings, New Zealand actually made out a shopping list of the items she intended to shoplift! As reported in www.stuff.co.nz.

Arana Maude Hawea also stole in front of her daughter on two trips to a Hastings gas station. Like mother, like daughter, on their second visit, the 10-year-old filled her pockets with chocolate bars while her mother took a block of cheese and a bottle of cream.

The 31-year-old Hawea pleaded guilty to 13 charges of shoplifting, taking seafood, rubbish bags, a butane torch, extension lead and a red hoodie.

Hawea is a serial shoplifter and has been charged numerous times over the years for shoplifting, including a $1,100 spree this past August.

In addition to her daughter, Hawea has involved friends in her shoplifting expeditions. Louana Lee Mokoare, 32, who accompanied her pleaded guilty to receiving stolen goods.

Hawea needs intensive stop theft classes and counseling to overcome her addiction. While I am all for being prepared, making out a list before you go shoplifting, to make sure you don’t forget anything, is ludicrous.
