The old adage that “older is wiser” certainly does not apply to everyone. It certainly does not apply.

An 80-year-old English woman, Irene May Topping, admitted shoplifting after she took a pork pie and other items from a B&M Bargains store. As reported in www.southwalesargus.co.uk.

This is not the octogenarian’s first run-in with the law, turns out the 80-something has very sticky fingers. In November 2008 was the last time she faced a judge on a theft-related charge. But that was not her first run-in, but her 11th! She has been busted 12 times for stealing.

Get thee to a 4 hour theft class woman!

Her afternoon started out innocently enough. She went downtown to get a haircut, but when her usual hairdresser was not available, she decided to wander around.

After being startled and knocked to the ground by a Carnival procession she regressed to the calm quietness of the bargain store.

She admits to stealing £23.22 ($38) worth of groceries. She also admits that a glass or two of alcohol she had prior to going out may have clouded her judgment, but she is very annoyed with herself and doesn’t know why she did it, as she would never usually even buy a pork pie.

Alcohol sure makes you do stupid things.

I hope Topping takes a 4 hour theft class. She could really benefit by gaining insight to her mindset and perhaps even prevent a 13th arrest!
