How many elected representatives are ripping us off every day? Is it me or does it just seem like our politicians are out to get us. How often do you read about some elected official stealing?
These elected officials can be very sneaky sometimes. A New York State Senator has been indicted for covering up a scam that stole taxpayer money through a non-profit organization she founded. As reported in articles.chicagotribune.com.
The thief is Shirley Huntley, who represents part of the New York City borough of Queens. Huntley wrote a bogus, backdated letter to fool investigators into thinking that some $30,000 in services had been performed.
Stolen Pork?
Instead, Huntley's aide and niece -- both officers in Huntley's nonprofit, Parent Workshop -- allegedly pocketed the money, funneled to the nonprofit through a legislative member line item.
New York lawmakers have distributed more than $900 million in member line items, often derided as "pork," to more than 20,000 nonprofits since 1999.
Huntley is charged with two felonies and one misdemeanor - falsifying business records, tampering with physical evidence and conspiracy.
Once again shameful behavior by our duly elected representatives! I hope Huntley is mandated to a New York theft class and never is allowed to handle tax-payer money again.
