A couple of weeks ago I blogged about the butler for the Pope who was arrested for stealing. Stealing money from God’s coffers most certainly is a sin. All theft is illegal and also a sin.
Now comes the story of a finance executive who linked her $900,000 embezzlement from the Philadelphia archdiocese to the church's sex-abuse. As reported in www.delcotimes.com.
For her aberrant behavior Anita Guzzardi will spend at least two years behind bars.
The 42-year-old said she succumbed to gambling and shopping addictions after feeling betrayed by the church over the priest sex-abuse scandal. Nice – blame the church for your actions. She is in dire need of a stop theft class and counseling.
Want to talk about screwing up a good thing, Guzzardi had worked at the Roman Catholic archdiocese since she was 20, and was making $124,000 a year as chief financial officer when she was fired last year.
Guzzardi took relatives on trips to Hawaii, the Caribbean and San Francisco, and spent lavishly on herself and others. She also spent heavily on spas, restaurant meals and flowers and made extra mortgage payments on the couple's $425,000 house in suburban Haddon Heights, N.J.
Apple Doesn’t Fall Far From the Tree
Guzzardi has repaid $260,000, and has been ordered to pay the remaining restitution. Her sister, Rosemarie Gallo, called Guzzardi "the dependable one" in the large extended South Philadelphia family — many of whom came to court — and said their parents had gambling and shopping addictions.
I would say Guzzardi is a “despicable” one. I hope she takes the 8 hour theft class and never again takes what does not belong to her.
