How many gallons of maple syrup would one have to steal to equal $1 million worth? I bet a lot. Now multiply that number by 30 and that is how much syrup would have to be robbed to equal what just happened in Canada.

Police in Quebec were following the scent of something sweet – millions of dollars' worth of maple syrup missing from a large warehouse stocking over $30 million worth of the amber nectar. As reported in www.huffingtonpost.com.

Quebec's syrup stock is considered to be a global strategic reserve of the sweet stuff that is often used to replenish markets during disappointing seasons. Quebec produces up to 80 percent of the world's maple syrup. Thieves knew where to look. Now how will they unload the sweet goodness?

The syrup was stolen from a facility that stores over 10 million pounds of syrup. You learn something new every day. It appears that syrup theft is quite common, however, stealing $30 million worth is extremely rare.

Despite the size of the theft the disappearance of the stock wasn't obvious at first in the huge warehouse. The facility alone houses nearly the equivalent of half the entire U.S. production of maple syrup in a year.

Interesting theft item that I hope you enjoyed.
