With so many people fighting to attain legal citizenship in the United States, it is amazing that one man risked his status just to steal. Anyone who ever has visited other countries, even the “civilized” ones over in Europe or in Canada, realizes what a true blessing it is to live in the “Land of the Free.”
I am all in favor of deporting individuals who earned the right to become a US citizen and take it for granted by breaking the law. As reported in www.nj.com.
Dany Arango, a Colombian citizen who was living in the country legally, pleaded guilty to fourth-degree shoplifting in May 2003 after he was caught stealing $325 from a Paramus (New Jersey) Macy's.
He received a year of probation as part of a plea deal, but was arrested again just six months later for stealing $200 of merchandise from a Sephora store.
The second plea deal, which Arango agreed to in May 2004, said he could be deported as a result of the new conviction, and sentenced him to 91 days in the Bergen County Jail.
During the 2003 court proceedings, he falsely testified that he was a U.S. citizen and now he is being deported. Good for our justice system. Perhaps if he had been more honest he would have gotten away with just taking a New Jersey Shoplifting Class.
