Is it any surprise that an incident involving a pit bull wound up involving the police? In this case we certainly cannot blame the cute, innocent puppy. In fact it was its cuteness and innocence that attracted the thieves in the first place.

Of course the owner of the cuddly little pup was really ticked off when he walked in during the theft. He proceeded to chase the suspected thieves' car through a Chula Vista, California neighborhood. He chased the thieves in his car until they crashed into a tree and ran off. As reported in www.sandiego6.com.

The puppy thieves were identified as 23-year-old Arturo Deharo and 18-year-old Lizeth Garcia who were arrested after other witnesses admitted having seen them snatch the puppy and speed off.

The dog's owner got into his minivan, gave chase and caught up to the pair. They must have really wanted the dog because they opened fire on the dog’s rightful owner!

The thieves left the puppy in the totaled vehicle, a Volkswagen Jetta. Fortunately it was saved before the Jetta caught fire.

What a ridiculous event. Why steal someone’s dog? Why exacerbate the situation by trying to shoot and kill the owner? I hope both suspects are mandated to a California theft class and seek counseling for their aberrant behavior while in jail.
