The great maple syrup caper has been resolved! Or has it? The syrup has been located.

Pancake house patrons across North America, rejoice! Canadian authorities have recovered a huge quantity of maple syrup stolen from a warehouse in August (see our blog). As reported in kdvr.com.

Maple syrup is a huge commodity and Canada and this was the largest theft of the product in the history of the planet. Police confiscated the stolen syrup at a company who claimed they bought it from one of its legitimate suppliers and had no way of knowing the syrup was stolen.

The thick, syrupy trail continues as the supplier claims it too purchased from a legitimate supplier. How many middle men are there on maple syrup? For crying out loud!

It’s not known exactly how much syrup was stolen or how much was recovered, but the product originally stored in the Quebec warehouse where the theft occurred was worth more than $30 million.

The total amount of syrup seized was 119,000 liters, or about 31,400 gallons.

So far the syrup thieves have not been brought to justice. However, the good news is there will not be a shortage of syrup this winter so we can all continue to enjoy our pancakes without getting stiffed by higher prices.
