One of my favorite sections of the local newspaper was “news of the weird.” I always imagined that I probably would end up doing something stupid enough to make the headlines.

As an alcoholic and drug abuser, I was constantly doing stupid things, including theft. My addictive behavior had me on the fast-track to jail or an early grave. What happened in Massachusetts recently to the base player for the rock bank Coheed and Cambria, could have been me (I can rock out on the drums).

Bank Robbery or Pharmacy Robbery?

The 30-year-old Michael Todd or Orange County, California took a taxi to a Walgreen’s and showed the pharmacist a note saying he had a bomb and demanding prescription drugs. After grabbing six bottles of Oxycontin, the uber-intelligent Todd hopped back in his cab which took him to the Comcast Center in Mansfield and dropped him off at his tour bus. His band is opening for the mega-star group Soundgarden.

Stupidity Begets Stupidity

This is a fact – drugs make people do stupid things. Stealing prescription painkillers – stupid. Taking a cab there and back – stupid. Threate4ning the pharmacist that you have a bomb – stupid.

Of course he was easily caught. Police arrested him before the show and Todd spent the concert in jail!

For his efforts Todd has been replaced by the band and is now unemployed. Once again the stupidity began by taking drugs!
